This year’s International Youth Day (IYD) on 12 August focuses on Intergenerational solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages. The theme aims to amplify the message that action is needed across all generations to achieve the SDGs and leave no one behind.
Ahead of the one year anniversary of the Lancet and Financial Times Commission on Governing health futures 2030: Growing up in a digital world (GHFutures2030) report launch, and to celebrate this year’s IYD, the GHFutures2030 Youth Network will launch the #MyHealthFutures campaign.
The #MyHealthFutures campaign is co-designed by young people aimed at:
(1) Creating space for young people under the age of 35 to share their concerns, hopes and ideas for improving health futures; and
(2) Disseminating key messages from the Commission report, including the importance of strengthening youth leadership in the design, implementation and evaluation of digital first health systems and governance.
GHFutures2030 Regional Youth Champions are the primary spokespeople for the campaign, sharing messages from the Commission report as well as posing questions to stakeholders, particularly young people, through digital channels. The insights and perspectives gathered throughout the campaign will deepen the Commission’s understanding of young people’s priorities, hopes and concerns in relation to health futures and create a new public narrative on the importance of digital first health systems that are co-designed and governed by young people and are responsive to their health needs.
This campaign calls on all stakeholders in the digital health ecosystem to support a global movement to build better health futures through implementing the Commission’s recommendations.
Calling on youth
The first phase of the campaign will ask one key question to young people: How can digital first health systems deliver better health futures for young people? Responses through different mediums such as polls, response cards, and/or video messages will be received from young people through various social media platforms including Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok and LinkedIn. These responses will be compiled and presented during an international global health convening of decision makers at the World Health Summit on the 16-18 October in Berlin.
One youth champion will be selected to join the panel discussion and present the video on behalf of the GHFutures2030 Youth Network.
Several other cross cutting initiatives will support this campaign including: a youth call for blogs, campaign champions selected to join upcoming podcasts/convenings, online polls/surveys to collect data and collaborative campaign strategies with other youth networks and/or partners working with young people to improve the diversity of youth responses.
