Diary of a digitally cautious young person

It was my birthday last month and I got my first smart phone – I was so happy! Now I can talk to my friends whenever I want. I’ve created a couple of social media profiles but haven’t shared many posts yet. My teacher said we need to be very careful what information we share about ourselves online as you can never really know where it goes.

Recently, I haven’t been feeling very well and I don’t know what to do. I have painful cramps in my stomach, which I think might be linked to my periods. I am anxious about searching for information online because I know my parents will check my search history. They might think I am searching about pregnancy and start asking me awkward questions.

I don’t want to go to the doctor because he will write things on his computer that my parents might see. I’ve talked to my friends and they suggested I download an app to track my menstrual cycle. The one on my friend’s phone looks nice. Perhaps I should just talk to my mum and see if she’ll help me set it up on my phone.
