Olivia Banner (@olivia_banner) is Associate Professor of Critical Media Studies at The University of Texas at Dallas and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies for UTD’s School of Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication. Her research investigates digital technologies of health and psychiatry through political economic and social justice approaches, and elaborates the histories of medical and psychiatric racism, misogyny, and ableism that have informed their historical development. Her books include Communicative Biocapitalism: The Voice of the Patient in Digital Health and the Health Humanities (2017, University of Michigan Press) and a current project, Screening Madness, 1933-2020.
